Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If I want to be a volunteer, what do I need to do to get started?
A: You need to register for one of the two-hour orientation sessions listed on the Volunteer section of this website, or call 502.485.8185. You will receive all necessary information at this training.
Q: Can I volunteer in a school close to my home or place of work?
A: All Jefferson County Public Schools are involved in the Every 1 Reads initiative and placement is usually possible at the school of your choice. It is also possible to volunteer in an after-school program with an Every 1 Reads Endorsed Community Partner.
Q: I am a student. Can I become a volunteer?
A: Several hundred high school students are currently serving as volunteers. It is important to remember that for an in-school placement, you would need to be at a JCPS school by 3:00 p.m. Also, you will need to have a letter of reference from your school. If you are under 13, it is best if you can serve as a tutor in your own school. (We can make placements in other schools, but it takes special consideration from the receiving school).
Q: My business or organization is considering adopting a local school. What do we do?
A: Call 502.485.8185 to get all necessary information and learn about schools close to your location. It is also possible to adopt a community or faith-based organization.
Q: Is Every 1 Reads a 501c3 for tax purposes.
A: Yes, the funds are held with the Jefferson County Public Schools Education Foundation and your contribution will be tax deductible.
Q: I would like to have someone come to my organization and give a presentation on Every 1 Reads. Who do I call?
A: Call the 502.485.8185 Every 1 Reads phone line, and your call will be directed to someone who can make this presentation.
Q: I want more information on my organization becoming an Every 1 Reads Endorsed Site. What do I do?
A: First of all, review the information on this website. If you still have questions, call 502.485.8185 and someone will be glad to assist you.
